The National Certified School Counselor (NCSC)
 
 

Requirements

Option 1: For counselors who are not state certified/licensed as a school counselor
Candidates must meet all of the following:
  • You must hold a current NCC credential.
  • You must hold an advanced degree (master's degree or higher) in counseling, or in a closely related mental health field, completed at a regionally accredited college or university.
  • You must have completed coursework in each of the six required content areas listed on page 14. The six content areas include at least 3 semester/5 quarter hours of graduate-level academic credit earned in school counseling field experience(s).
  • You must have accrued at least 3 academic years of post-graduate counseling supervision and work experience as a school counselor in a PreK-12 school setting.
  • ALL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION
Option 2: For counselors who are state certified/licensed as a school counselor
Candidates must meet all of the following:
  • You must hold a current NCC credential.
  • You must have an advanced degree (master's or higher) in a mental health field. Your degree must have been completed at a regionally accredited college or university.
  • You must hold a current school counselor credential issued by your state's department of education.
  • You must have accrued at least 3 academic years of post-graduate counseling supervision and work experience as a school counselor in a PreK-12 school setting.
  • ALL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION.
