NBCC’s Code of Ethics Self-Assessment is an educational tool developed to evaluate a Counselor’s understanding of the NBCC Code of Ethics, the ACA Code of Ethics, and NBCC’s Principles for Artificial Intelligence in Counseling. The assessment consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, and participants may review their incorrect responses afterward. The assessment is available for $25 through CCE Academy, and Counselors who take the online assessment and read all three documents will earn 3.5 NBCC continuing education (CE) credit hours.

“The NBCC Code of Ethics remains a living document that can be incorporated into practice, consultation, and supervision,” says Callie Marino, Vice President of Credentialing and Quality Assurance. “Our goal is that this self-assessment will serve as a tool to help Counselors weave NBCC’s Code of Ethics into their sessions, their case notes, and their advocacy efforts.”

Brenden Hargett, PhD, NCC, MAC, LCMHC, LCAS, NBCC’s Vice President of Operations and Director of Ethics, recommends the self-assessment as a way for Counselors to stay informed about ethical concerns.

“Sometimes, Counselors, in their work, can veer away from standards of care that are essential to what we do. As society changes, our codes change accordingly, and this assessment aligns with the updates with practical, real-life, common day-to-day scenarios. The assessment can also assist Counselors in maintaining their ethical responsibilities.”
