
Richard Stapleton
EdD, NCC, ACS, BC-TMH, LMHC
Dr. Rich Stapleton is the CES Field Coordinator at Walden University in the School of Counseling. He served as President of the American Counseling Association of Iowa from July 2019–2020.
Dr. Stapleton maintains a small private practice in Iowa City, Iowa, and has a passion for working with medical and mental health professionals experiencing compassion fatigue, impostor syndrome, and moral injury. Throughout his career, he has worked with adolescents and adults. He worked in a rural mental health clinic in Southeast Iowa as part of the National Health Service Corps, where he worked with adults with disabilities and provided mental health in schools. He served as the Behavioral Health Team Lead for ChildServe, an organization that provides an array of services for children with severe medical issues. Dr. Stapleton is an advocate for payment parity for telemental health services, which are an essential tool for bringing quality mental health services to people living in rural and remote areas. Dr. Stapleton is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Iowa and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), in Minnesota. He is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and a Board Certified-Telemental Health Provider (BC-TMH).
