Shyam Suchak

Shyam Suchak is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, executive leader, educator, and advocate whose career has been dedicated to strengthening individuals, organizations, and communities. With professional experience spanning executive leadership, clinical mental health counseling, workforce development, and nonprofit management, he brings a unique perspective that bridges organizational systems with the human experience at the heart of the counseling profession.

Born and raised in Tanzania, Shyam also lived in India before making the United States his home. Experiencing life across three continents has shaped his appreciation for cultural humility, inclusion, and the diverse experiences that influence how people heal, grow, and connect with one another. Those experiences continue to inform both his clinical work and leadership philosophy, reinforcing his belief that meaningful change begins with understanding, compassion, and authentic human connection.

Shyam serves as Chief Operating Officer of Anne Grady Services, a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout northwest Ohio. As a member of the executive leadership team, he provides strategic leadership for human resources, organizational development, learning and development, employee relations, community relations, marketing, mission advancement, and organizational strategy. Throughout his career, he has focused on building strong organizational cultures, developing leaders, strengthening workforces, and helping mission-driven organizations create lasting impact.

He is also the founder of Saha Counseling, where he provides psychotherapy and executive coaching for adults, professionals, and organizational leaders. His counseling practice integrates evidence-based approaches with an emphasis on resilience, emotional well-being, self-awareness, and values-driven growth. Whether working with counseling clients or organizational leaders, he is passionate about helping people recognize their strengths, navigate change, and lead more authentic and fulfilling lives.

A former NBCC Foundation Minority Fellowship Program Fellow, Shyam has remained actively engaged in advancing the counseling profession through leadership, education, and advocacy. He is a frequent national presenter on leadership development, workforce strategy, organizational culture, mental health, resilience, and counselor development, and has presented for the National Board for Certified Counselors Foundation, the Ohio Provider Resource Association, and other professional organizations.

Committed to service beyond his professional roles, Shyam has dedicated much of his career to civic and community leadership. He recently served on the City of Toledo Human Relations Commission as its Second Vice Chair and Executive Liaison to the Youth Empowerment and Engagement Committee. His community involvement also includes serving as Chair of the HeForShe Campaign for Women of Toledo, a United Nations solidarity movement for gender equality, and as a member of the Board of Directors for Children’s Theatre Workshop, where he supported youth development through the arts. These experiences reflect his enduring commitment to advocacy, equity, inclusion, and creating opportunities for individuals and communities to thrive.

Shyam earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Spring Arbor University, a Master of Organizational Leadership from Lourdes University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Toledo. He is also a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and a John Maxwell Certified Coach, Trainer, and Speaker.

As a member of the NBCC Board of Directors, Shyam is honored to help steward the counseling profession by promoting ethical practice, advancing professional excellence, and supporting counselors as they meet the evolving mental health needs of diverse communities. Throughout his career, he has believed that lasting impact is created when clinical excellence, ethical leadership, and genuine human connection work together to strengthen both individuals and the systems that serve them.
