Board certified counselors now have access via ProCounselor to continuing education (CE) documents that date from before a certificant’s five-year renewal cycle.
Whitney Conaway, NBCC’s Recertification Coordinator, says the change was prompted at the request of board certified counselors to make it easier not just for recertification purposes, but for state licensure renewals.
Frequently, board certified counselors lose track of hard copy documentation of CE they have completed; as a result, they rely on NBCC’s records.
“Although certification is a five-year cycle, and CE documentation is available to board certified counselors during their cycle, it had not been available to them once a new cycle began,” Conaway says. “As a result, some board certified counselors had difficulty accessing documents they needed to renew their state licenses.”
By making adjustments to the ProCounselor portal, NBCC has been able to keep CE documentation available to board certified counselors from previous certification cycles, which should help them with state renewals.
“We understood the need to access the previously uploaded documentation and, as always, strive to improve our practices as well as provide tangible benefits to the NCC community,” Conaway says. “We’re pleased we’re now able to make these CE documents from previous cycles available for our board certified counselors.”
